Diving Gear

Diving gear for scuba diving may make use of many different forms of breathing gas. The only natural form of breathing gas is air. However, other artificial gases are used in breathing equipment.

The breathing gases used by diving gear mix oxygen with one or more inert gases. These alternatives are chosen for a variety of reasons. For instance, some mixtures are ideal for discouraging decompression sickness as well as to reduce the length of decompression stops.

When using alternative breathing gas mixtures in diving gear, it is necessary that the user be trained in their use. Enriched Air Nitrox is the most commonly used of these for diving. Technical dives may make use of different options at each diving phase.
