Diving Equipment FAQs

What does PADI stand for?

PADI is an acronym for Professional Association of Diving Instructors. This is the largest diver training organization and recreational diving membership in the world. It is also the most widely recognized agency that provides SCUBA certification in the world.

How old does a person have to be for PADI certification?

A person may become certified at ten. However, there are limitations upon this until the age of fifteen. A ten or eleven year old can only dive with a professional. Twelve, thirteen, and fourteen year olds must dive with a certified adult.

What should a diver do if his or her tank runs out of air?

A diver in such a situation has two choices. The first is to share air with his/her diving buddy in an alternating pattern. The second is to perform a controlled emergency swimming ascent. Of course, it is wise to always check all equipment thoroughly before going into the water to reduce the possibility of such problems from occurring.
